Fernanda Bonilla, MD

Dr. Fernanda Bonilla is a Consultant Physician specializing in Infectious Diseases at the Integrated Hospital Care Institute (IHI) at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a role she has held since 2014. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Bonilla serves as the Chairperson of the Infection Control Committee, the Chairperson for the Formulary and Therapeutics Committee and the Vice Chair of Education for IHI, where she plays a key leadership role in advancing patient care, safety, and educational initiatives.
Dr. Bonilla is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She completed her Medical Degree at Universidad del Valle in Colombia before pursuing further training in the United States. Dr. Bonilla completed her Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Following her training, she practiced in the Akron area of Northeast Ohio, where she built a successful and busy practice. During this time, she also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, mentoring and educating medical students and residents. Additionally, she held the position of Infection Control Chairperson at Summa Western Reserve Hospital, where she was responsible for overseeing infection prevention strategies and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients and healthcare workers.
Dr. Bonilla resides in Abu Dhabi with her husband and their three children. She is deeply committed to advancing the quality of healthcare in the region while balancing her professional achievements with family life.
