Overview:
The Advanced Cardiac Life Support course aims to build on the skills learnt in the Basic Life Support course, and highlights the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. The course, designed for healthcare professionals and those in contact with cardiac emergencies, explores the importance of communication between care teams, the recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and ACS.
Audience:
Healthcare professionals who direct or manage cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies; personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, or intensive care; and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics
Learning Objectives:
- Apply systems of care and effective team dynamics to optimize patient outcomes, including use of RRT/MET, high-performance communication, leadership, and continuous team evaluation.
- Perform a systematic patient assessment using BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessments to rapidly identify life-threatening conditions.
- Recognize and manage acute cardiovascular and neurologic emergencies, including ACS, stroke, bradycardias, tachycardias, respiratory arrest, and cardiac arrest, with appropriate early interventions and disposition.
- Deliver high-quality resuscitation and post–cardiac arrest care, including early CPR and AED use, ongoing physiologic monitoring, real-time feedback, and evaluation of resuscitative effectiveness until termination or transfer of care.
