Topic: Management of Septic Shock
Heart–lung interactions and assessment of fluid responsiveness (Part 1)
Speaker(s): Dr Mohamed Askalany & Dr Mohamned Megri
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize septic shock early and initiate timely evidence-based resuscitation, including appropriate fluid therapy, vasopressor use, and early antibiotics.
- Apply hemodynamic monitoring and organ-support strategies to optimize perfusion and improve outcomes in patients with septic shock.
- Describe the physiological principles of heart–lung interactions during spontaneous and positive-pressure ventilation and their effects on preload, afterload, and cardiac output.
- Explain how mechanical ventilation variables (tidal volume, PEEP, intrathoracic pressure) influence cardiovascular function and venous return.
